How to Enable TPM 2.0 for Windows 11

How to Enable TPM 2.0 for Windows 11

In short: TPM 2.0 is a security chip requirement for Windows 11. On most PCs it's a firmware feature (fTPM on AMD, PTT on Intel) that's simply turned off in the BIOS. Restart, enter your BIOS, enable it under Advanced settings, save, and reboot.

How do I check if TPM is already enabled?

Press Windows key + R, type tpm.msc, and hit Enter. If it shows "The TPM is ready for use," you're already set and don't need to touch your BIOS. If it says TPM can't be found, follow the steps for your motherboard brand below.

ASUS motherboards

AMD systems

  1. Restart the system and repeatedly press F2 or Del to enter the BIOS.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab (press F7 for Advanced Mode if you don't see it).
  3. Set AMD fTPM to Enabled.
  4. Press F10 to save and reboot.

Intel systems

  1. Restart and press F2 or Del to enter the BIOS, then switch to Advanced Mode (F7).
  2. Open PCH-FW Configuration and set it to Firmware TPM (or enable PTT if that's the option shown).
  3. Press F10 to save and reboot.

MSI motherboards

AMD systems

  1. Tap Del or F2 on startup to enter the BIOS, then press F7 for Advanced Mode.
  2. Go to Settings → Security, set Security Device Support to Enable.
  3. Set AMD fTPM Switch to AMD fTPM, then save and reboot.

Intel systems

  1. Tap Del or F2 on startup to enter the BIOS, then press F7 for Advanced Mode.
  2. Go to Settings → Security → Trusted Computing, set Security Device Support to Enable.
  3. Set TPM Device Selection to PTT, then save and reboot.

ASRock motherboards

AMD systems

  1. Tap Del or F2 on startup, then go to Advanced → CPU Configuration.
  2. Set AMD fTPM Switch to Enabled, save and reboot back into the BIOS.
  3. Go to Advanced → Trusted Computing and confirm Security Device Support is set to Enable, it should now read "TPM20 Device found."

Intel systems

  1. Tap Del or F2 on startup, then go to Advanced → CPU Configuration → Security.
  2. Set Intel Platform Trust Technology to Enable, then save and reboot.

Gigabyte motherboards

AMD systems

  1. Tap Del repeatedly on startup, then press F2 for Advanced Mode.
  2. Go to Settings → Peripherals and set AMD CPU fTPM to Enabled.
  3. Save and exit to reboot.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need TPM 2.0 to install Windows 11?

Yes, Microsoft requires TPM 2.0 as a minimum system requirement for Windows 11.

Does enabling TPM slow down my PC?

No, fTPM and PTT run in the background with no noticeable performance impact on gaming or everyday use.

My motherboard isn't ASUS, MSI, ASRock, or Gigabyte, what do I do?

Look for "fTPM," "PTT," or "Trusted Computing" under the Advanced or Security section of your BIOS, the naming is similar across most brands. Contact our support team if you'd like a hand.
